What is

Giftedness?

“Gifted and talented children are those identified by professionally qualified persons who by virtue of outstanding abilities are capable of high performance. These are children who require differentiated education programs and services beyond those normally provided by the regular school program in order to realize their contributions to self and society. Children capable of high performance include those with demonstrated achievement and/or potential ability in any of the following areas: (1) general intellectual aptitude, (2) specific academic aptitude, (3) creative or productive thinking, (4) leadership ability, (5) visual and performing arts.” - Sidney Marland, Education of the Gifted, 1972

Intelligence

Research has found that intelligence is developed from the interaction between our genetic inheritance and the experiences provided by our environment. High levels of intelligence will not occur if there is not a strong interaction between inherited abilities and enriching experiences.

Joseph Renzulli Explains giftedness

Joseph Renzulli is an American educational psychologist. He developed the three-ring model of giftedness, which promoted a broadened conception of giftedness. He also developed the "Schoolwide Enrichment Model" for developing children's talents in schools. Renzulli is known for his contributions to understanding giftedness.
